Intermediate level - General information

In the intermediate level, the subjects that were already taught in the trial level are continued. Pupils choose Latin or French as their second foreign language (see general information on second foreign languages). Chemistry is added as a further subject in the natural sciences. Individual subjects are taught epochally, i.e. not continuously in every school (half) year. For example, art and music are taught alternately every six months in years 7 and 9. Additional supplementary lessons in individual subjects serve to provide differentiated support for all pupils.

In our grammar school, pupils in year 7 are required to take an additional foreign language. There is a choice of French or Latin, which must be chosen from year 7 to 10. Both subjects are taught for up to 4 lessons per week and up to three class tests per semester are compulsory. In French, one class test can be replaced by an oral communication test.

The second foreign language is chosen in the spring of year 6 after the pupils have taken part in a trial lesson in the subject.

In Year 8, central comparative tests(Vera 8) are carried out nationwide in the spring. Pupils at the WvSG take part in the test in mathematics, German and English, which provides differentiated information about strengths and weaknesses within a learning group.

From Year 9 onwards, students take an additional written subject in addition to the existing range of subjects, depending on their inclination. Our school currently offers four options in the compulsory elective area in grades 9/10:

- Democracy in antiquity and the present

- Computer science

- Natural sciences

- Dutch

This offer is based on the requirements of the ministry and the focus of the school profile of the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium and covers all major subject areas (languages, natural and social sciences).

Lessons are taught for 4 hours per week, with two compulsory class tests (alternatively: project work) per semester. The subjects in the compulsory elective area are assigned to subject group II and are therefore considered as a minor subject in the course of transfers.

In spring, an information event is held for pupils and their parents/guardians at which the differentiation options are presented in detail and questions are clarified by the subject teachers.

The choice takes place in the second semester of year 8 and is binding for two school years.

At the end of year 10, central examinations (ZP 10) are held in mathematics, German and English. The content and skills of years 9 and 10 are tested here. The examination grades are taken into account proportionately when awarding report card grades.

Our pupils are encouraged to deal with their personal development in the middle school. They are supported in this by various socio-educational projects and programs for addiction and drug prevention. Pupils at our school are also invited to take on responsibility in everyday school life (e.g. as mediators, media scouts or school paramedics).
